Why Do We Use the Sweeteners We Use?

Xylitol Erythritol
Xylitol is produced from xylose through a process known as hydrogenation. Xylose is sugar of the “pentose class” that come from woody substances like straw, and is a much healthier sweetener than sugar. The Hydrogenation process converts the xylose into a sugar alcohol (aldehyde). Xylitol can also be extracted from natural sources, and is often harvested by tapping birch trees for the birch sap, which is used to produce natural xylitol.

Erythritol is also a sugar alcohol and is the easiest of all sugar alcohols to digest. More than 90% of erythritol is absorbed in the small intestines, so only very small amounts ever reach the colon, where other sugar alcohols usually cause gas, diarrhea, and other symptoms. Recent studies have revealed that erythritol is even easier to digest than xylitol.

Xylitol and erythritol are natural healthy alternatives to unwholesome sugar and artificial sweeteners like Splenda, Sorbitol, Agave, Equal, NutraSweet, Saccharin, and others.
